Artist Statement

With a background in stained glass conservation, my practice is rooted in a deep respect for the historic craft of stained glass and a desire to carry its most beautiful qualities into new contexts. I work primarily with coloured glass—particularly traditional pot metal glass, whose movement and depth are intrinsic to its character. Viewed in transmitted light, these materials come alive, revealing a richness and vitality that is unmatched by any other medium.

At a time when contemporary architectural glass often relies on flat, industrially-produced surfaces with colour applied superficially, I am committed to preserving and evolving the material intelligence of stained glass. My work seeks to break away from the conventional leaded light format while remaining true to the enchanting, light-responsive essence of the medium. I aim to reconnect viewers with the natural world through glass—evoking the shifting qualities of landscape, light, and growth.

Rather than replicating the past, I see my practice as a continuation of a living tradition: one that honours the movement, irregularity, and luminosity of historic stained glass while adapting it for new forms, spaces, and ways of seeing. Through both sculptural and site-sensitive works, I hope to reawaken the poetic and sensory power of glass as a way of engaging with the more-than-human world.
